Four choices decide how a stick feels: hand, flex, curve and length. Here is how to choose each one for ICEFORGE ELITE. These are starting points. Your own feel always comes first.

1. Hand

Your hand is the one that sits lower on the shaft. Right hand low means a right-hand stick. Left hand low means a left-hand stick. If you already play, check your current stick.

2. Flex

A good starting point is a flex a little under half your body weight in pounds. See the full hockey stick flex chart.

Flex Starting point for body weight
75 About 150–170 lb
85 About 170–190 lb

Under 150 lb, 75 is our softest flex. Over 190 lb, 85 is our stiffest flex. Ask us if you are outside these ranges.

Between the two? Choose 75 if you want an easier load and a quicker release. Choose 85 if you lean hard into your shots. Cutting a stick makes it stiffer, so keep that in mind if you plan to cut.

3. Curve

Curve Type Good for
P92 Mid curve An all-purpose choice for passing, receiving and shooting
P28 Toe curve Toe drags and pulling the puck in close

If you have played one of these curves before and liked it, stay with it. Want the full comparison? Read P92 vs P28.

4. Length

ELITE measures 61 inches from the top of the shaft to the heel and 67 inches from the top of the shaft to the toe. Brands measure in different ways, so compare the same points on your current stick. Our hockey stick length guide shows how to measure and compare.

A common guide: wearing shoes, the top of the stick reaches about your nose. On skates, it reaches between your chin and lower lip. Many players go shorter or longer to suit their game.

How to cut your stick

  1. Tape a mark at the length you want and check it on skates or in shoes.
  2. Remove the butt end if there is one, and cut a little less than you think you need. You can always cut more.
  3. Cut straight with a fine-tooth saw, then lightly sand the edge.
  4. Finish the top with tape or a new butt end.
